A Place to Connect

“And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
(Micah 6:8, NIV)

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind…
Love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Matthew 22:37-38, NIV)

Pastor/Teacher

Whatever your background, Reverend Averill Elizabeth Blackburn invites everyone to a spiritual journey. God is Love. We know it. We hear it. But what does it mean?  How does it affect our day-to-day lives in 21st Century America? To address this question, Reverend Blackburn begins with deconstruction of the Biblical text, looking at the worldview of Jesus and his followers through the specific language used in order to understand God's message as it applied to them during that time period. Two millennia later the Bible continues to speak to us. Once we have translated it, piece by piece, we can begin to understand how we can interpret it for the world we know today.

Rev. Blackburn is particularly passionate about music for worship services. She appreciates a combination traditional hymns in tribute to the church’s rich history as well more contemporary music addressing to today’s culture,

Averill’s journey includes an upbringing in Northwestern CT, Wales, Scotland, and the Orkney Islands. Her studies have brought her to Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA (Medieval/Renaissance Studies), BA; University College London, London, England (Medieval Literature), MA; St. Mary's College, St. Andrews, Scotland (Divinity, two years, transfer) and Andover Newton Theological School, Newton Center, MA (Masters in Theological Research).

Rev. Blackburn comes from a family of ministers. Her mother, Reverend Susan E. Wyman is currently at Barkhamsted, CT while her father, Reverend Doctor Steven P. Blackburn is currently at Colebrook, CT. Her late Grandfather was the Reverend Doctor Henry G. Wyman.
