Centering Prayer

with Rev. Robert Bowler

Did you know meditation isn't only an Eastern or Buddhist spiritual practice? There are rich traditions of contemplative spirituality within Western Christianity too, although they have been somewhat hidden from most regular churchgoers. The Protestant Reformation further marginalized these practices. Now is your chance to learn a profound, accessible method of deepening your practice of prayer or meditation. Centering Prayer is an ancient spiritual practice mainly in western monastic settings. In the 1970’s it was renewed and made available to the public by the Trappist Father Thomas Keating and his colleagues.

We will learn the stages of this form of contemplative prayer and have a practical experience. This will be followed by a Q&A session.

No previous experience with prayer or meditation necessary. Particular beliefs not required, only an openness to divine presence.

Doors open at 6:30 pm; Event 7:00 - 8:00pm.

FREE with registration, suggested donation $10 in adv.
